1. What is GCC REACH?
GCC REACH (Gulf Coast Consortium Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub) is an NIH-funded multi-institutional resource that supports healthcare technology innovators. It connects academic entrepreneurs with biotech experts to rapidly validate the commercial potential of discoveries.
2. Who can apply?
Innovators affiliated with Texas institutions—academic faculty, postdocs, students, and clinicians—can apply. If your technology has the potential to impact human health, whether therapeutic, diagnostic, or in devices, tools, or software, you’re eligible.
3. Is it a requirement to be affiliated with a Texas institution to apply?
Yes, applicants must be affiliated with a Texas institution, including academic faculty, postdocs, students, and clinicians.
4. How much funding does the program provide?
GCC REACH primarily offers mentorship and strategic guidance to develop a Product Commercialization Plan (PCP). However, select projects that meet certain milestones may receive up to $50,000 in funding for milestone 1.
5. What is the main value of the program?
The main value of the GCC REACH program lies in its expert guidance and the development of a comprehensive Product Commercialization Plan (PCP). Additionally, successful applicants will work with a customized Strategic Advisory Team to help navigate the commercialization process.
6. What is the application process like?
Applications are accepted year-round. Once submitted, you’ll schedule a 30-minute Technology Feedback Forum (TFF) with expert reviewers. Successful applicants move forward to develop a Product Commercialization Plan (PCP) with customized support.
7. Is there a deadline for applications?
Applications are accepted anytime, but there are cutoffs for Technology Feedback Forums (TFFs). It’s first come, first served, so apply early to secure your spot.
9. How do I apply?
